  • For some reason I have been enthralled by great lakes shipping since I saw my first freighter up close at Saulte St. Marie. So the next three pictures are of big freighters going up or down the St. Clare River. We were able to ride along the St. Clare Parkway for about 20 miles. It was a beautiful ride with the river always no more than a few first downs away. The water is a unique shade of blue and all of the homes seem very well kept. I should have taken more pictures of just the waterway, but the boats are what excite me. Also, there is an interesting mix along the parkway of industrial (refineries and cola fired power plants) and residential uses. The farther away from Sarnia the more residential it gets. It was so pretty here that we cut our ride short and stayed in a campground just out of Sombra. Little did we know that it was the weekend of “Sombra Days.” About the time we went to bed the concert started about 1,000 yards from our campground. The early evening tuck in was a bust, but the concert was OK.
